California operators are divided on whether to recall Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) in next week’s special election. While Newsom presents himself as a supporter of the industry, execs have been frustrated by high taxes, regulations and difficult market conditions.

  • Polls predict Newsom will stave off the recall.
  • The leading Republican contender, talk-show host Larry Elder, is a cannabis user according to his ex-fiancee, but he hasn’t laid out a different approach on the industry.
  • One poll showed pot lobbyist Jackie McGowan running a distant third out of dozens of candidates.
  • NORML endorsed Newsom.

Cannabis isn’t generally seen as a key issue in the election.
