The chair of New York’s Cannabis Control Board said she anticipates issuing licenses for REC dispensaries in Spring 2023 at the earliest.

  • Tremaine Wright made the comment during an industry symposium in Rochester to “audible groans.”
  • She made clear that opening the dispensaries could, and probably would, take longer.
  • The law specifies April 1, 2022 as the first possible day for sales.
  • Businesses have started promoting themselves with various forms of “gifting” which Wright called illegal and said could incur “severe financial penalties.”

Meanwhile, across the Hudson River, the New Jersey Cannabis Trade Association  says it has sufficient supply to start selling REC immediately through existing MED dispensaries.
