LESSONS ABOUND IN LONG BEACH TAX WIN

Last December, Long Beach advocates finagled a City Council vote to manage taxes toward cannabis businesses’ favor. On February 13, the law went into effect, and those who successfully pushed against the increase think they might have created a model for state-level change.

  • The law going into effect lowers the Long Beach municipal tax rate from 6% to 1% for manufacturers, distributors, and testing labs. “Lowering the tax rate will also help keep more jobs in Long Beach because it helps keep prices competitive,” said Long Beach Collective Association  President Adam Hijazi.

The LBCA, also cited improved public safety among the tax decrease’s potential benefits.
