The rivalry between Napa’s standard-bearing wine industry and punky upstart organized pot means no grows can be located outside Napa cities’ boundaries — in vineyard country. Tensions are emerging as the prospect of a vote on cannabis farm locations approaches.

- The REC insurgents of Napa county have support from investors such as Francis Ford Coppola and the Robert Mondavi heirs. They believe their product to be the region’s one sure way of holding onto millennials, who are consuming all-time low levels of wine.
