Last Friday, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed a pile of bills that will affect social equity, vaping and organized labor in California cannabis. He also vetoed a bill that would bring weed to hospitals.

- Needs-based licensing applicants will be served next year by Senate Bill 595. The new law would defer or waive their application and renewal fees.
- Newsom also signed Assembly Bill 1529, which will require that a universal symbol no smaller than a quarter-inch in diameter be on all approved vape cartridges. It can be graved, affixed with a sticker or printed in black or white
